Team captains

  • It is each captain's responsibility to see that their team adheres to the rules and regulations of the Organizing Committee (NRW Kannada Koota e.V. members, or any of its associates).
  • Inappropriate behaviour on or off the ground, by a person or a team, can lead to disqualification from the tournament.
  • The Organizing Committee together with the captains takes the final call โ€” a minimum of 5 of the 8 captains must agree to any change.
  • Any accident or injury to a player is covered by their own insurance. The committee is not responsible for personal injuries.

Points & qualification

  • If a match is tied, the winner is decided by a SUPER OVER.
  • If the super over is also tied, another super over follows, and so on until there is a result. No D/L method is applied.
  • All teams must be available at all times: the indicated times can change because of weather or other reasons, and matches may be re-scheduled at any point during the day.
  • If the umpires and one team agree to play but the opposing team is not ready to start or resume (bad weather or any other reason), the team that is not ready loses the match and gets 0 points; the other team gets 2 points.
  • In the league stage, a match affected by bad weather is decided by a reduced-over match, by a super over, or by awarding 1 point to each team.
  • The top 2 teams from each group qualify for the knockout round (semi-finals). Teams level on points are separated by net run rate first, and then by the number of sixes hit.

Number of players

  • A team is 13 players for a match, taken from the final list submitted at registration.
  • A team needs a minimum of 9 players available for a match to start. Otherwise it forfeits the match after a 30-minute wait.
  • The playing 11, plus the two extra players (12th and 13th), must be given to the umpire before the toss.
  • No changes to the team are allowed after the toss, under any circumstances.
  • One player can play for only one team.
  • No players may be added during the tournament.

Impact player

  • The impact player is chosen from the players who are not in the playing 11, although both teams announce their final playing 11 at the toss.
  • The impact player can be brought in at any time, subject to these conditions:

    • a.while batting: when a wicket falls, or when a batsman retires;
    • b.while bowling: at the end of any over โ€” they can bowl the next over straight away.
  • The impact player can bat, or bowl a complete quota of overs, exactly like a player in the playing XI.
  • The impact player cannot be used as a substitute, which means they cannot field before being introduced as an impact sub.
  • The player who is replaced by the impact sub takes no further part in the match.

Overs

  • 10 overs per innings for all league matches.
  • Knockout matches: 12 or 15 overs, to be decided based on the qualified teams' opinion.
  • Maximum overs per bowler: the innings is shared between at least 5 bowlers. In a 10-over match that is a maximum of 2 overs each. In a 12-over match two bowlers may bowl 3 overs and everyone else is capped at 2. In a 15-over match the maximum is 3 each.
  • The two longer spells in a 12-over match go to whoever bowls them first โ€” there is nothing to nominate in advance.
  • The scoring console enforces this: a bowler who has finished their quota cannot be selected for the next over.
  • If a side is too short to bowl the full innings within the quota โ€” fewer than five available bowlers โ€” the limit is lifted rather than the match being unable to continue. The console says so on screen; settle it with the umpire.

Field restrictions

  • Powerplay (the final decision is announced on match day):

    • a.a maximum of 2 fielders outside the fielding circle;
    • b.the first 3 overs of every innings are powerplay overs, in all matches.
  • Non-powerplay:

    • a.a maximum of 5 fielders outside the fielding circle;
    • b.at the time of delivery, a maximum of 5 fielders on the on-side (leg side) at any given point.
  • If any of these restrictions are violated, the umpire calls the delivery a no ball and the next delivery is a free hit.

Wides

  • The umpire's decision is final: a wide is a run plus an extra ball.
  • Anything down the leg side is a wide.
  • If the ball bounces and goes above the head of the batsman, it is a wide. The umpire warns about the one bouncer allowed per over.
  • If the ball bounces above the head of the batsman but he touches it, it is a legal delivery. It is still signalled as the bouncer for that over, and the batsman can be given out on it.

No balls & free hits

  • The umpire's decision is final: an extra run plus an extra ball.
  • There is a free hit for every no ball.
  • On a free hit, a batsman can only be dismissed run out.
  • A no ball is called in any of these circumstances:

    • a.a full toss above the waist;
    • b.a second bouncer in an over โ€” a bouncer pitches once and passes above the shoulder and below the head, and the umpire warns after the first;
    • c.the field restrictions are not complied with;
    • d.while bowling, the back foot touches the return crease or lands outside it;
    • e.a fielder changes position during the bowler's run-up โ€” the only exception is inward movement;
    • f.the bowler accidentally hits the non-striker's stumps during the delivery stride and still delivers the ball;
    • g.the bowler changes side (over the wicket to round the wicket, or the reverse) without telling the umpire.

Byes, leg byes, LBW, overthrows & dead ball

  • Byes: yes. Overthrows: yes.
  • Leg byes: no. LBW: no.
  • Dead ball โ€” zero runs and no ball counted:

    • a.the ball pitches twice or more before reaching the batting-side stumps (balls that keep low are not dead balls โ€” consult the leg umpire);
    • b.after any serious injury to a fielder or a batsman;
    • c.if fielders talk during the bowler's run-up โ€” either umpire can stop the bowler, or the batsman can refuse to play the ball. In both cases it is a dead ball, and the fielding captain is warned not to repeat it;
    • d.if the ball hits the edge of the plank and deviates.
  • Run outs and stumpings: the umpire's decision is final.

Umpires

  • Neutral umpires are organised by the Organizing Committee for all matches.
  • The umpire's decision is FINAL. Arguing with an umpire may lead to the team being disqualified.
  • In case of doubt, the two umpires consult each other and come to a joint decision.
  • For any match conflict beyond the umpires and captains, the Organizing Committee takes the final call.

Punctuality

  • With only one weekend available, considerable delay may result in a penalty.
  • Captains report at the ground 30 minutes before the start of the game.
  • The toss is held 15 minutes before the game.
  • If the captains have not reported on time, the match is forfeited to the opposing team, who get 2 points.
  • The time taken to complete each innings is strictly enforced.

Runners & substitutes

  • No runner is provided for a batsman under any conditions.
  • An injured player can be substituted for fielding only, and only if the injury happened during the match.
  • A player injured before the start of the match is not allowed any substitute.
  • A substitute is only allowed to field during the match.

Bowling action

  • Batsmen can appeal to the umpire about a bowling action.
  • The umpire looks into the action and decides whether it is objectionable.
  • If the action is objectionable, the umpire gives one warning to the bowler and the captain.
  • If the same action is repeated, the bowler is not allowed to bowl again for the rest of the tournament.
  • That over is completed by another bowler.

Flexible schedule

  • The organisers can make slight adjustments to the tournament schedule based on factors such as ground availability and weather. The final decision is taken by the organisers.

Ground rules

  • Showers: a maximum of 4 people in the shower room, using alternate shower heads (one head free between two people).
  • All markings and signboards related to hygiene must be followed.
  • Access to the playground is controlled. Everyone should be able to present an identity document on request when entering or leaving the playground.
  • Changing rooms: wear mouth and nose protection when entering, and keep a minimum distance of 1.5 metres from others. Follow the markings and signs.
  • A distance of 1.5 metres must be kept in the cabins.
  • Limit, or completely avoid, extra visitors and spectators for the game.

Equipment & general

  • The match ball is a hard tennis VickyWickets RED.
  • All other equipment is arranged by each team: bats, gloves, guards and so on.
  • The CricHeros app is to be installed and registered by every team player.
  • All teams sign a waiver: damage caused to ground property, or to anyone's personal property while playing, is the team's responsibility and not the committee's.
  • Park rules apply to every team and player: no alcoholic drinks, no smoking, no public indecent exposure.
  • The Tournament Committee reserves the right to amend the rules at any time if it considers it to be in the best interests of the tournament, and holds the right to disqualify any team for misconduct (money not refundable).

Each captain signs a copy of this rule book confirming that they, and their team, have read these rules and will follow them. The committee may amend the rules at any time in the best interests of the tournament.
